Welcome Mario Kart fans!

This site is rarely updated but is being maintained so that it will remain online since it has a lot of useful information for the Mario Kart series. I have no future plans for this site right now, but who knows what could happen?

The Super Mario Kart Battle Mode Challenge will still be updated as normal.

I would like to thank GameSpy and DataPacket for the web hosting, my staff and contributors for generously helping so much with the site, my many affiliates, and you for visiting!

It's been my pleasure to run this site, but now I must be on to other things.
Peace be with you!

Sincerely,

- Jonathan Bennett (a.k.a. Troopa)

Lots of news! Here we go...

Nintendo has opened their official Mario Kart web site! Check it out for new screenshots and movies of Double Dash. Woo hoo!

Nintendo of Japan has told us that Mario Kart: Double Dash will be released (in Japan) on November 7th.

The pre-order bonus disc will be included with Double Dash and not sent out before the game is released. The disc will have game trailers, 6 playable demos of upcoming games, and some special unlockable content for Fire Emblem on the Game Boy Advance. Check out EBGames for pre-ordering.

Our affiliate has posted lots of great info about the tracks in Double Dash.
Check out Prickly Peach's Red Room.

Our hosted site Mario Kart Remix has some new stuff you'll wanna check out!

Since Nintendo has dropped the price of the Gamecube to $99, their sales have gone way up. This is great news, since it means more people will be playing Mario Kart: Double Dash! And since Mario Kart makes people happy, then there will be more happy people in the world. So thanks to Nintendo for increasing the world's happiness! Heheh.

Not much news about Double Dash right now, but I wanted to mention some other things in this update.

First, I'm selling Super Bomberman 2 (SNES) and Harvest Moon (N64) on eBay so bid if you want them. :)

Second, I just got Wrestlemania XIX today. It is really great and fun. It has replaced WWF No Mercy (N64) as my favorite fighting/wrestling game. I guess that's it for now. Peace!

Nintendo Insider has an updated preview of Double Dash. Good read.

Nintendo has confirmed that there will be a bonus disc with Double Dash.
Read the article.

Two other things non-related to Mario Kart that I will type on my keyboard for now. One, Amy from Paradise Hotel is a goofy person. And two, Wrestlemania XIX looks awesome and fun!

Thank you for the news, Boffo!

Nintendo won't tell us much through email, but some of their representatives in London at ECTS are saying that they will include Mario Kart 64 on the pre-order bonus disc, just like they did with Zelda!

Cube Europe has posted some new screens of Mario Kart: Double Dash.
See them here.

MKDD UK has also posted some new screenshots, courtesy of Games Press.
Check them out. Double Dash is lookin' great!

August 25, 2003, 8:15pm - by Troopa
According to GameFAQs message board user Supreme2002, the new pink heart item makes hearts spin around your kart (like triple shells in MK64) and they protect you from being hit with weapons up to 2 times.

John Elsberry from Nintendo of America had this to say about the bonus disc:

"Starting in early October, players that reserve their copy of Mario Kart: Double Dash will receive a special demo disk, filled with game play demos and movies of upcoming Nintendo GameCube titles. This demo disk will be packed in the first copies of the game, specifically for customers who pre-order. Standard retail versions of the game will not include this demo disc. We don't have any more details at this time, but I'm sure once the details are sorted out we'll post some information on our web site and in Nintendo Power magazine."

IGN has a picture of the poster for the demo disc promotion. See it here.

August 23, 2003, 6:50pm - by Troopa
According to Ningc's article, Mario Kart: Double Dash will support up to 16 players! Wow!! This could also mean that Nintendo plans on holding large tournaments for Double Dash players.

I've uploaded the ultra-cool Mario Kart 64 soundtrack! It was ripped and sent in by Stanley the Bugman, webmaster of Super Mario Planet. Thank you!

August 22, 2003, 6:55pm - by Troopa
PlanetGameCube is hosting 4 new videos of Mario Kart: Double Dash gameplay.
See them!

August 22, 2003, 2:40pm - by Troopa
Lots of Mario Kart: Double Dash news to report today. Here we go...

IGN has confirmed that the Mini-Turbo from MK64 is returning to Double Dash!! This is great news because the Mini-Turbo adds a lot of depth to the game, especially for time trial players. They also say that there is a new battle mode called Bob-omb Blast. Read here for more info.

IGN has also reported that there is a good chance that you will receive a bonus disc when you pre-order Mario Kart: Double Dash. The disc will contain demos and movies of new games, and it could contain complete games such as Mario Kart 64. Nintendo has done this before with Zelda: The Wind Waker. Nothing has been confirmed yet though. Read here for more info.

It's recently been confirmed that Mario Kart: Double Dash will be released in the UK on November 14, 2003!

August 20, 2003, 8:30pm - by Troopa
PlanetGamecube has posted their impressions of Mario Kart Double Dash from the Toy Test. Be sure to read it here!

August 20, 2003, 4:45pm - by Troopa
I added some more info to the Mario Kart 64 Drivers page. Some people have yelled at me for saying that the lightweights have the highest top speed in MK64. The experts and world record holders have proven that the lightweights are actually the fastest, so there. When "official guides" were made and claimed that the heavyweights were the fastest, they just didn't know any better. It's not the first time for a mistake to be printed in an official statement, guide, or manual!

August 19, 2003, 8:20pm - by Troopa
Mario Kart Central has now been up for one year! Come and chat with us about our anniversary! :)

Our affiliate N-Gamer has posted three new videos of gameplay from Mario Kart: Double Dash. Yes!!! Click here!

Make sure to check out a great new site, Mario Kart Unlimited! We've also added their button under our Affiliates.

According to the ECTS trade magazine (posted at Mkdd.co.uk), it will be the full version of Mario Kart: Double Dash playable. This contradicts previous reports that it would just be an updated version (from the E3 demo) of Double Dash.

August 16, 2003, 6:40pm - by Troopa
I added the new Mario Kart: Double Dash Interviews section.

I've uploaded all of the Mario Kart: Super Circuit time trial movies!

Our affiliate NinCube is in need of some help to keep their site running. It's a great site, so if you want to get involved you should go check it out!

August 13, 2003, 11:15pm - by Troopa
Crash Nitro Kart looks like it will be a fun Gamecube game. It's the sequel to Crash Team Racing (for the Sony Playstation), which plays very similar to Mario Kart 64. So if you don't have a Nintendo 64, you could get Crash Team Racing as a great alternative.

Alex's Double Dash site is so pretty with the new design. Check it out when you're done here! Nice work!

I'm in Cabin 5 at Nintendo's Camp Hyrule, so hello to any fellow campers! And according to this chat at Camp Hyrule, Mario Kart: Double Dash plays fast enough!

One great thing about Mario Kart is the community of players on the Internet. For example, Mariokart64.com still has a lot of great time trial competition. Things overall are very good for Nintendo with their Mario Kart games.

August 10, 2003, 11:05pm - by Troopa
I was messing around and typing in different domain names, and I came across mariokart-doubledash.com. The site design is pretty cool, but it hasn't been updated since April. I wonder how soon until Nintendo shows us their official site for Mario Kart: Double Dash?

August 10, 2003, 12:45am - by Troopa
Two kart styled racing games have recently been released for the Cubie.
Freaky Flyers is an airplane racing game and it's getting pretty good reviews.
And the other game is Butt Ugly Martians, which is getting bad reviews!

What a surprise to me that a game with "butt" in the title isn't a good game!
Oh, wait a second, did you hear that? Yep, it was sarcasm.

August 7, 2003, 9:45pm - by Troopa
Check out our new Mario Kart: Double Dash Tracks section! A HUGE thank you to Mc Bacon for kindly donating his Double Dash tracks page. Thanks buddy, you the man!

August 6, 2003, 6:00pm - by Troopa
We now have Mario Kart 64 time trial movies available, courtesy of FilePlanet. Download them, study them, and improve your time trial records!

Mkdd.co.uk has posted 13 new screenshots of Mario Kart: Double Dash taken from a Japanese Expo.

The OC is a new show that I like. I wasn't sure if I would like it but it seems pretty good so far. Anyone else check it out?

August 5, 2003, 5:55pm - by Troopa
According to a recent press release, it will not be the full version of Mario Kart: Double Dash that will be playable at the ECTS trade show. It will just be an updated version from the one that we saw at E3. We can also assume that the playable version in Germany will not be the full version.

August 1, 2003, 5:15pm - by Troopa
In case you haven't realized, the Super Mario Kart Remake site has successfully been moved to a new server and is up and running! Come and chat with us about the remake in our forums!

I just added a new poll up above, so make sure to vote! Which driver do you think deserves to be in Mario Kart: Double Dash?

July 30, 2003, 6:15pm - by Troopa
The full version of Mario Kart: Double Dash will be playable August 21st in Leipzig (Germany) at the Games Convention. Thanks to Marlon for the news!

Nintendo plans to park a huge bus outside of the ECTS trade show in London. It will have 40 Gamecubes hooked up with the full version of Double Dash for play. Check out Cube Europe for more info.

It's rumored that Double Dash will be released in Japan during September, but nothing's confirmed yet.

The Super Mario Kart Remake site is temporarily down. It's being moved to a different server and it should be back up soon!

Thank you to the 30+ people who emailed me and wished me a happy birthday!

July 28, 2003, 12:01am - by Troopa
Today is my birthday! I am 19 years old, yay. For my birthday I want everyone to email me and wish me a happy birthday. I'm curious how many emails I will get!

Now that the Super Mario Kart movies are up, I plan on uploading the Mario Kart Super Circuit and Mario Kart 64 time trial videos soon so watch out for that. Alex has posted a new video of Double Dash's multiplayer mode at his site so be sure to see it!

Nintendo of America has confirmed that Double Dash will be released on November 17. And I also added more info to our Double Dash Interview.

I was surprised to see Chauncey make it into the American Juniors group last night. Oh well, he is the best boy on the show in my opinion. But come on, why isn't Chantel Kohl in the group yet?! She should have been the first one in!! Everyone do me a favor and vote for her next week. Oh, and Toni from Paradise Hotel is weird! Yeah, you heard me, WEIRD!!

July 22, 2003, 8:40pm - by Troopa
Check out our exclusive interview with a Mario Kart Double Dash player!
I also updated the Super Mario Kart Battle Mode site.

I think most of the SMK movies are working but if you come across any broken links then PLEASE tell me.

It's about time they made a Freddy vs. Jason movie. I had that idea years ago. Freddy can change shape, teleport, etc. so I think he will/should kick Jason's stupid ass.

July 16, 2003, 10:40pm - by Troopa
I added the Battle Mode Challenge to the Super Mario Kart navigation and the Time Trial Movies for SMK are up. Some of the movie downloads might not work this very moment, but everything should be in good order within 24 hours.

The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) turned 20 years old yesterday. Gamespy is writing an excellent article about the classic video game system, so go ahead and read it. And come chat with us about your earliest video game memories!

July 16, 2003, 5:30pm - by Troopa
The sickness (strep throat) has left my body and I uploaded Double Dash box art by Matt8441. Woo hoo!

You will soon be able to download movies of experts playing the different Mario Karts, courtesy of FilePlanet. By studying these videos, you could become one of the best!

I was watching a Power Rangers movie last night, and I must admit that a part of me enjoyed it. Maybe it was something in my drink, maybe it was Amy Jo Johnson, or maybe I'm just insane. No matter, you should still make fun of me!

July 9, 2003, 10:10pm - by Troopa
I've been sick with Strep Throat this week so I haven't been able to work on any large updates.

You can see 27 new screen shots of Mario Kart: Double Dash over at Alex's UK site. You could also download them all zipped up (956KB).
Special thanks to Josh (MammaMia) and Alex!

Make sure to check out the Super Mario Kart Battle Mode Challenge!
You could win up to $1,000!

July 3, 2003, 12:40pm - by Troopa

After 400+ hours of work on the site, I'm taking a break for awhile. Video Game Wars and the Polls will still be updated, and other updates may happen too. If anyone from a large company or site (Nintendo, Gamespy, etc.) have any opportunities for me, I'd be glad to hear them, just contact me. Our Forums will still be active and I'll be posting in there so you can chat with me there too.

Let me tell you about MarioKartDoubleDash.co.uk. It's a wonderful site, I'm really impressed with it. You should bookmark it and check back often for the latest Mario Kart: Double Dash info. Also check out Mc Bacon's Double Dash site. It has great stuff you won't find anywhere else (unless they took it from him)! He is "da man."

May 19, 2003, 3:45pm - by Troopa
Is there a mode in Double Dash that will let you drive the old style karts from Mario Kart 64? Read my answer to this question and more in our new Mailbag!

The confirmed items in Double Dash are: Mushroom, Triple Mushroom, Banana, Egg, Green Shell, Red Shell, Lightning, Star, and Chain Chomp. There will be even more items, but these have been confirmed by various movies of Mario Kart: Double Dash. If you know of any other confirmed items then please contact me with the information. Thanks!

New screen shots from the E3 expo have been posted - check them out!

Here is some more info about the gameplay in Mario Kart: Double Dash:
- No hopping, only powerslides, but hopping may be introduced.
- Your kart determines handling, not the player.
- A for gas, B to brake, L or R to powerslide, X or Y to use weapon, Z to swap players
- The player in front can keep a weapon in reserve.
- Can't hold a banana behind you but they're working on a possible dodge technique for dodging the red shell.
- A player can steal an item from another player by driving up right beside them.
- Blue shell has wings, nails you from above.

The new Mario Kart sounds like it will be superb! Thanks to Boffo for all of the great news! Check out our Forums for even more information!

May 13, 2003, 11:30pm - by Troopa
Here is the new information about Mario Kart: Double Dash straight from the Nintendo press kit:

Double the fun! Each kart holds two racers that can switch places at any time. Choose from a huge cast of favorites, like: Luigi, Peach, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Wario and many more, and pair them up in any combination. The character in front handles the driving duties, while the character in the rear doles out damage with six different items plus eight special items that only specific characters can use.

Reach new levels of frenzy with four-player mayhem, as each player controls two characters as they speed through Mushroom Kingdom courses.

Place first in racing circuits to open up progressively more difficult circuits. Of course, you can have multiplayer races on any open courses or battle in arenas.

Link the game with eight other players using a broadband adapter and race each other side-by-side using multiple game systems and multiple games.

Wario and Waluigi have also been spotted! Check out this screen shot for proof! And make sure to check out all of the new screen shots!!

Special thanks to Nesboy and Xander for spotting Wario and Waluigi!

In order to make the site navigation even quicker, I added Quick Link menus (see above). I was originally going to make a whole new menu using some DHTML and javascript, but after an hour of coding I didn't like the results and figured that quick links would just be better and quicker.

I added the Mario Kart 64 Advanced Strategy guide so check that out. Also added was Yoshi Lore to our Links, and a bunch of other things.

Yesterday I received my E3 pass (see it) in the mail from GameSpy (they're awesome). I was planning on going but then these things called "priorities" came up and I realized that right now it would be better for me to use the travel and hotel money on more "important" things. Heh heh, maybe next year. It's okay though because now I can update the site with the latest Mario Kart: Double Dash news and screenshots instead of having to wait until I got home!

May 2, 2003, 11:50am - by Troopa
The following pages have been updated and uploaded! :)

- Mario Kart: Super Circuit drivers
- Super Mario Kart drivers
- Super Mario Kart battle mode
- Super Mario Kart battle mode guide

I also added four new articles to the Editorials section, three of which are reviews. Don't expect many reviews to be written in the future, I just like to write them occasionally. For good up-to-date reviews, check out GameSpy.

- Added new fake Mario Kart: GameCube box art pictures. They're pretty cool!
- Added 3 new articles to our Editorials section.
- Added a new poll, "Which version is your favorite Mario Kart?"

I also want to thank everyone who has sent in wallpapers, pictures, sounds, and more for the site. I apologize I may not have put them up yet, as you can see there is a lot of stuff to do when running the largest Mario Kart site on the 'net! I hope to be able to put up your file submissions soon. If anyone has anything they would like to share, then please contact me.

Hey everyone, everything I said on my last update (April 1st) was a joke. Ya know, April Fools! I made all of the stuff up, I found the image of Kirby in MK64 and I made the image of Koopa Troopa in Diddy Kong Racing. Heheheh, sorry!

Check out the new "Support the Troopas" image above, do you like it? I wanted to show support for our troops in war right now in a unique way.

In site news, we now have a new Editorial section, so make sure to check that out. I'm going to be adding more to it when I get more stuff written, of course!

Happy April's 1st! I have an awesome update today for everyone!

First of all, it has recently been found out by Mario Kart 64 experts that Kirby and an unidentified driver are in the game as secret drivers! Go ahead and click this link to learn how you can use them!

I also found out that the popular Koopa Troopa from Super Mario Kart is a hidden driver in Diddy Kong Racing for the N64! Follow this link for info and an exclusive screen shot!

This is awesome news, isn't it?! Come chat with us about these new secrets with us in our Forums!

And finally, some visitors have told me about a virus on their computer that made the images on Mario Kart Central turn upside-down. If any images on the site look upside-down to you, then you may be infected with the computer virus!

I added the Advanced Strategy for Mario Kart: Super Circuit, make sure to check that out! So far we have mainly been focusing on beginner to intermediate strategies and I'm glad we are now moving on to advanced strategies that way Mario Kart Central has something for EVERYONE! I plan to add advanced strategies for Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 as soon as I can, but I'm also working on other things for the site!

According to this article, Nintendo currently has no plans to have their games be played online. Looks like more evidence that the next Mario Kart will not support online play.

I've been a little busy lately working on different projects, but here I am with another update. The "Currently Working On" section has been taken down, since I'm usually working on the same type of thing anyway, just MORE of it!

I also added a new poll. Just like I expected, most people want Mario Kart for the GameCube to support online play, and I agree. Miyamoto has said that it is difficult to take the Mario Kart experience online. I'm not sure what he means because the game would still play the same online wouldn't it? Games such as Unreal and Starcraft play the same online, except there might be lag some times when playing with modems. Oh well, we'll have to wait and see, but there is no doubt that the next Mario Kart will be a great game just like the others.

I'm working on adding some strategies for advanced players and also some other new things so make sure to check our site again in a few days!

And finally, we were having some server problems with our Mario-Kart.net domain name and our Forums but everything is working good now so come chat with us!

Should the new Mario Kart for the GameCube support online play? Take our poll above and tell us your opinion, every vote counts! =)

Our first poll had over 300 votes and Koopa Troopa was voted the most popular driver in Super Mario Kart. He beat Yoshi by only a few votes!

Come chat with us in our Forums!

Shigeru Miyamoto has been talking more about the new Mario Kart! Check out the interviews at the Mario Kart: GameCube page. We also now have a new Wanted section on the site. In it I will list some things I'd like to put on the site but don't have. If you can help me with anything, that would be great! =)

Our poll is doing well with votes, but we can still use some more! We've had over 3,000 visitors this week but only about 130 votes so far. I'll be putting up a new poll in a few days. I'm looking into using a better polling script but our current system works great for now (except the message board is disabled).

In more personal news... I recently saw Daredevil. Awesome movie, I liked it even more than Spider-Man. I got my sister Crash Team Racing for her PS-One. It's a lot like Mario Kart 64 and a great kart game for those without a N64 or those looking for something new!

I've updated some pages so now they look cleaner and some other things, but the biggest update for today is the brand new polls!

Our first poll is, "Who is your favorite Super Mario Kart driver?" Make sure to vote, but only once please! And tell your friends! :)

I'm selling some video games on Yahoo Auctions. If you're looking for ExciteBike 64 or a brand new version of NBA2K3 for the GameCube, buy them from me! ;)

Since Mario Kart: GameCube is expected to be released some time this year, Nintendo will most likely have a lot to share with us about the game at the E3 expo in May.

I plan on adding some more maps for the Mario Kart: Super Circuit tracks in a few days. See ya then!

I'd like to give a shout out to our newest members in the Forums! Wazzup??!! :)

I'm back! I haven't been online in about a week because I switched ISPs and also had to fix some phone jack problems. I'm going to be responding to emails soon, so please be patient everyone! :)

Just because I wasn't online doesn't mean I didn't work on my site! Here's a list of things I've added:

- Updated Mario Kart 64 driver info.
- Updated Super Mario Kart driver info.
- Fixed/updated various HTML coding.
- Changed the way the layout works. It may not look different to you, but it acts different to me and it makes it easier for me to update the site.

I'd like to give a special thanks to Mark Jones for the help and information he gave me with the Mario Kart 64 drivers. Check out his web site: http://www.ics.uci.edu/~mjones/mksc/

I'm going to update the Mario Kart 64 driver information soon, so check back in a few days for that.

Our site has had a nice boost of visitors lately... so hi everyone, I hope you enjoy the site! :)

And finally, I'd like to give a big welcome to the new users in our forums!

I haven't had much time to work on the site because of holidays, but now I'm back. I'm working on a new 'Mailbag' section and I've also been replying to some emails.
