Mario Party 4 is a board game and in it you play mini-games to earn coins which you can use to buy items that help you win. You win by getting the most stars during the game. At the start of the game you choose from one of eight Nintendo characters to play as, choose one of the six boards, how many players, and other settings.

Mario Party 4 has over 50 mini-games and most of them are very fun. Mario Party 4 isn't a board game like Monopoly because of the use of mini-games, so even if you don't enjoy board games you may enjoy the Mario Party series.

The graphics are good and the boards have lots of nice effects to look at. The sound effects are well done and the music suits the game well. The computer AI plays good in mini-games but they do some unintelligent playing on the actual board some times.

Mario Party 4 has lots of options to customize your game. You can setup teams, give handicaps, choose how many turns, and more. There are also a few hidden things in Mario Party 4 which enhances the replay value.

Conclusion
You should at least rent this game. If you're an alone gamer then this game will become boring eventually, but if you have friends or relatives who like to play with you then you should seriously consider picking up Mario Party 4. It's arguably the best Mario Party yet, and it is one of the best multiplayer games on the GameCube.
